In organizing, siyempre we need time and effort to support local oraginizing and prepare their leaders for big fights ahead. Most of the time, people may have heard about anti-discrimination policies, the SOGIE Equality Bill, but are not aware what their purpose is.

In terms of converting, education is still the best way (explaining the SOGIESC concepts, informing them of discriminatory experiences of disadvantaged groups). Usually, we need to present an argument to a barangay / community that resonates with them - may it be the human rights argument, Christian argument, community harmony argument. Some of the stronger arguments I have discovered are (1) digging into their pride as locals - “siyempre, walang diskriminasyon dito sa atin, pero we need a ln ordinance that will tell visitors na bawal mag-discriminate” and (2) safety for LGBTQI loved ones - “gusto natin na pag lumalabas ang mga anak natin, bakla man siya or tomboy o straight, hindi tayo natatakot na mamatahin sila sa labas.”

May legal basis na po tayu sa LGU, need lang natin to make it work so it the ordinance can deliver its promise, protection of human dignity and empowerment to the marginalized!
