COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev says the Loss and Damage Fund "will be able to flow in 2025."

There are going to be three breakthroughs today. The COP29 presidency will sign three agreements with the Philippines, the World Bank, and the donor countries– all to fully operationalize the fund.

"This an important win for vulnerable communities. It is the result of years of work," Babayev said, referring to the two previous COP presidencies. @here

Here's how she was described in a 2009 The Guardian piece: "In the outwardly polite yet vicious world of UN climate change diplomacy, where negotiators use every trick to further national interests and where battles rage over commas, colons and semi-colons, Bernarditas is seen by most poor countries as a heroic defender of their rights. But most rich countries paint her as a machiavellian, Soviet-style hardliner holding back an agreement to save the world." https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2009/nov/07/climate-change-talks-2009

Groups, fisherfolk held a fluvial protest near the LNG plants in Batangas City last November 11, calling an end to fossil gas expansion.

"Every dollar spent on fossil gas could advance renewable energy systems. Gas is not a bridge but a blow to the future we need," said Lidy Nacpil, coordinator of Asian Peoples’ Movement on Debt and Development, in a statement. Photos from APMDD @here
