DepEd wants to tap TUPAD workers for school cleanup
Education Secretary Sonny Angara has requested MalacaƱang to tap TUPAD workers to fast-track the cleanup of public schools hit by the combined effects of Tropical Storm Maymay and the southwest monsoon, the Department of Education said on Thursday, August 13.
āThe DepEd observed that the expanded response to assist affected schools may be supported by the remaining balance of the existing P2 billion TUPAD allocation for Brigada Eskwela, with around P1.09 billion already utilized or earmarked,ā the agency said in press release.
According to its initial estimates, the DepEd said at least 3,348 classrooms sustained minor damage, requiring at least P27 million for cleanup and clearing operations and another P161 million for minor repairs.
The DepEd also said TUPAD workers may also provide support by maintaining the sanitation, upkeep, and safety of the 171 public schools currently serving as evacuation centers. @here
