Floods force over 2,000 to evacuate in Cagayan de Oro Flooding from continuous rain spawned by Tropical Storm Basyang (Penha) since Thursday, February 5, forces some 2,298 people to evacuate their homes in Cagayan de Oro City. Officials say the Cagayan River swelled, and several roads were left impassable, with mud and debris reported in areas where waters have receded. The same situation has been reported in neighboring Iligan, another Northern Mindanao city, where rescue, search, and relief operations are ongoing as of this posting. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) says runway 07/25 at Camiguin Airport has been temporary closed due to the flooding brought by the overflow of an adjacent creek due to Tropical Depression Basyang (Penha). The runway closure caused the cancellation of Cebu Pacific flights DG6695 and DG6696, affected 67 passengers. CAAP says the Notice to Airmen at Camiguin Airport is effective from 9:52 am on Friday, February 6, to 4 pm on Saturday, February 7.

As Tropical Depression Basyang (Penha) moves towards Central Visayas, sea travel across ports in Cebu have been suspended and evacuations are being implemented in high-risk areas. Authorities announced that around 789 individuals or 131 families have been evacuated from their homes in the province. Here’s the situation report from the Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) as of 7 am on Friday, February 6: 𝗦𝗘𝗔 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗩𝗘𝗟 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦. Sea trips were suspended in 15 ports in the province: 1. Hagnaya Port, San Remigio 2. Pulambato Port, Bogo City 3. Maya Port, Daanbantayan 4. Consuelo Port, San Francisco 5. Poro Port 6.
