The Office of Civil Defense has been mobilizing resources to aid communities affected by the recent Mount Bulusan eruption. Over 14,800 families (more than 74,000 individuals) have been affected by the eruption. Currently, 19 families, comprising 61 individuals, are staying in two evacuation centers. SAN JUANICO BRIDGE UPDATES @here Here are measures taken by the government to alleviate traffic and protect the safety of citizens given the concerns over the structural integrity of the San Juanico Bridge, which connects Leyte and Samar:
1) Rerouting of heavy vehicles through checkpoints in Sogod, Ormoc, Palo, Tacloban, and Sta Fe on Leyte side; and Catbalogan, Taft, Basey, and Sta. Rita in Samar side. Pedestrians not allowed on the bridge starting May 18 2) Formation of a task group led by Office of Civil Defense in charge of ensuring smooth traffic flow, security, and rapid response efforts across the bridge. 3) Establishment of a Public Assistance Desk and temporary passenger terminals in Tacloban City, Leyte, in front of Orly’s Restaurant, and another in Sta. Press release from Office of Civil Defense | EARTHQUAKE RESPONSE @here OFFICE OF CIVIL DEFENSE May 27, 2025 EARTHQUAKE RESPONSE| Emergency Meeting Held After Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake in General Nakar, Quezon Today, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center (NDRRMOC) held an emergency meeting via video teleconferencing with Office of Civil Defense (OCD) regional offices from the NCR, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA regions, following directives from Secretary of Defense and NDRRMC Chairman Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr., to assess the impact of a recent earthquake near Quezon. The quake occurred around 12:17 PM, with a magnitude of 5.1 and a shallow depth of about 6 kilometers. Its epicenter was located roughly 24 kilometers north-northwest of General Nakar. The earthquake was of tectonic origin and was felt across multiple areas, with intensities reported from I to IV. Initial reports from OCD regional offices indicate the affected areas and their respective intensities as follows: Intensity I: Olongapo City, Aurora (Dingalan) Intensity II: Bulacan (Angat, Calumpit, Bulakan, Norzagaray, CSJDM, San Ildefonso), Las Piñas City, Parañaque City, Taguig City, Mandaluyong City Intensity III: Bulacan (Pandi, Pulilan, Malolos, DRT), Pampanga (CSFP), Caloocan City, Malabon City, Makati City, Quezon City, Navotas City Intensity IV: City of Manila, Pasay City, Marikina City As of now, there have been no reports of damage to structures or infrastructure. Residents in the affected areas experienced mild tremors, with stronger shaking reported in parts of Manila, Pasay, and Marikina. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or damages have been recorded at this time.

Nepomuceno, officials discussed ongoing assessments and the safety of critical infrastructure, including dams such as IPO and Angat in Region III. All regions are actively monitoring for aftershocks and potential impacts. The authorities urge residents to stay calm, remain vigilant, and prepare for possible aftershocks. A follow-up update is scheduled at 3:00 PM today to share further information. Residents are advised to follow official advisories and stay alert.
Hi everyone, Phivolcs says a "minor" phreatic or steam-driven eruption just happened at Taal Volcano in Batangas, 9:18 pm today (Thursday, May 29). The eruption produced a white plume 1,500 meters high. The volcano remains under Alert Level 1.
