Hello, everyone @here! A good read from Multimedia Reporter Jairo Bolledo: By process, it's the prosecutors who decide whether a case can be filed with courts or not. But how much evidence is needed? https://www.rappler.com/newsbreak/in-depth/things-to-know-level-evidence-needed-preliminary-investigation/

Good morning! Jairo here, justice reporter.

I am at the Sandiganbayan Sixth Division to cover the hearing on Zaldy Co’s malversation case. This is related to the flood control scandal.

State witness and former DPWH district engineer Henry Alcantara is already here. He is a prosecution witness and is set to take the witness stand today.

Last week, another state witness, former DPWH undersecretary Roberto Bernardo, testified that he allegedly received P130 million as a “sign of gratitude” from Zaldy Co.

Over 400 out of 14,000 gas stations not operational — PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) says 415 out of 14,269 gas stations in the country are temporarily not operational due to oil supply constraints, as of 7 am on Wednesday, March 25.

“The regions with the highest number of closures are Cordillera Administrative Region with 78 stations, Cagayan Valley with 50, Central Luzon with 42, Calabarzon with 35, and Bicol Region with 30, while most other areas continue to maintain normal operations,” the PNP says.

According to the PNP, it also monitored some incidents like a complaint due to overpricing in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya. The PNP adds that a “total of three cases have been filed involving hoarding, overpricing, and a separate case under investigation for unfair competition.”

Child rights activist Sally Ujano, jailed under Duterte, walks free from prison

Child rights activist Sally Ujano, who was arrested under the time of former president Rodrigo Duterte, has been released from detention at the Correctional Institute for Women, her family announces on Friday, March 27.

This comes after the Court of Appeals granted her appeal assailing her rebellion conviction in 2024.

The case stems from Ujano’s alleged involvement in the ambush of two military personnel in the province of Quezon in 2005. Her daughter Karla decried the allegations against her mother as baseless, saying Ujano was serving as executive director of Women’s Crisis Center in 2005, the year the alleged crime happened.

NEW DATE TO WATCH OUT FOR IN DUTERTE ICC CASE: April 22

On this day, the appeals chamber will rule on the jurisidiction issue. If Duterte loses this again, that’s it for this aspect. Jurisdiction is their biggest argument but they have so far lost their motions. If the appeal is lost, that becomes final.

The next to watch out for would be the pre-trial chamber ruling on whether or not case goes to trial. That ruling is expected end of April. The prosecution has expressed strong confidence they can take this to trial.
